Diving Deeper into EO Unlocked My Superpower – Steve Krebs

When I first joined EO in Melbourne, I had no idea how profoundly it would change my life. Eight years ago, I moved to the Gold Coast, still just dipping my toes into the waters of EO through mostly just forum attendance. Little did I know that the real magic of EO was waiting for me, ready to unveil a superpower I never knew I had.

Last year, I sold my online machinery marketplace business. It was a monumental moment, one that marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in my life. In that moment of transition, I decided to fully embrace EO. I immersed myself in every event, became an Accelerator Coach, become a mentor and even joined the Board. This journey wasn’t just a professional pivot; it was a deeply personal transformation. Let me share with you the story that brought me to this moment.

10 years ago while living in Melbourne, before I joined EO, we attempted to sell our business to an interested buyer. It was a heart-wrenching process, filled with hope and frustration. In the end the sale fell through, so decided to relocate to the Gold Coast. The result, we still moved but continued running the business for another seven long years.

Reflecting on where I am today, EO has been at the core of my life’s transformation. At one of my monthly forum meetings, I learned about the role of a broker in a business sale. This knowledge was a revelation. I couldn’t help but wonder how different our lives might have been if we’d known about brokers earlier. But life has a way of teaching us that hindsight is a luxury, and every experience is a lesson.

Through EO, I discovered the impact of shared knowledge. By seeking out and listening to the experiences of other members who had sold, I gained invaluable insights into the various stages of the business lifecycles and setting up a business for sale — Insights that were crucial when we finally sold our business last year. Our broker didn’t just focus on the financials; he helped us find an outcome that aligned with our future dreams. This was more than a sale, the clean exit we experienced was a validation of all our hard work and aspirations.

This experience highlighted the true power of EO. It wasn’t just an organisation; it was a lifeline, a community that empowered me to grow, to see a bigger picture, beyond what I thought was possible. By diving deeper into EO outside of just my Forum, I’ve embarked on a journey of personal growth, and in the process discovering a superpower that had been dormant within me all along – the ability to unlock growth potential in others.

Today, I stand at the beginning of a new business coaching adventure, loaded with the EOS framework and armed with the knowledge and confidence that EO has given me. As an engaged EO’er, I am not just learning; I am evolving, ready to face the future with newfound strength and enthusiasm. This is my transformation story, and in many ways it feels like it’s only just beginning.
